SECC 2025 - NEW RECORDS

This year's edition of SECC was in many ways a great success. We gathered in the parking lot at ICA Kvantum in Ystad, where there were good opportunities to both charge the vehicles to the max, and also stock up on food and drinks for the trip north.

A couple of weeks before the start it almost looked like we would be able to double the number of participants from the previous year. But a number of late dropouts meant that we ended up with 30 teams that would complete this year's test. But we are very happy about the great interest anyway. There was a great variety of vehicles and models, which makes us extra happy. And for the first time a truck also participated!

Due to the large number of participants, this year we divided the participants into three different starting groups. The truck was limited to a maximum speed of 90 km/h, so it had to start at 1:30 PM.

The starting group after contained about half of the cars, and here started those that were expected to take a little longer to arrive. This group was released at 14:00. And in the last group we had placed all the cars that we considered to have the best chance of winning or of placing in the top. The last starting group started driving at 14:30.

New to this year was that we used a new app (Traccar) to track and follow all participants. Traccar gave us the opportunity to develop and add certain functionality that we previously lacked. For example, we were able to see exactly when a vehicle passed both the starting point and the finish line, as well as a number of waypoints along the way. So we feel very satisfied with the outcome of this, after the debut. Hopefully we will have time to add some more nice features to this by next year.

The race itself would prove to be an extremely even affair. The NIO looked to have taken control for a long time, and was in a good position to defend its title, but the charge was not enough all the way to Haparanda. When they were forced to stop in Töre for a final charge stop, they found themselves passed by two cars. So after about 1,600 kilometers and almost 18 hours, it finally became a battle for seconds at the top. Joacim finished first with his Tesla Model S, but only a few seconds behind were Thomas and Filip in their Porsche Taycan. And since the Porsche had started about half a minute after Joacim, it became the winner of this year's SECC. And a new record time was also set. 17:55:19. An improvement of almost 10 minutes compared to the previous record time.

It wasn't just between the first two that it was even. In fact, everyone in the top 5 beat last year's winner's time, and the margin between them was only a little over 7 minutes. But even further down the results list, there were many who finished in very good times.

The SUVs impressed, despite high consumption in several cases, and kept up well. The best of these was an Xpeng G9 Performance, largely thanks to its ability to charge really quickly. But Robin Johansson in a slightly older Tesla Model X probably impressed the most by completing the entire trip with an average consumption of 164.5 Wh/km.

Our participating truck also did well. Many of our cars managed to catch up around Jönköping or Mantorp, but then found themselves temporarily passed again when the first charging stop approached. The truck, a Scania without a trailer, managed to drive all the way to Uppsala before it was time to charge for the first time. This set a new distance record for the competition, almost 700 kilometers. And according to reports, it still had 8% left.

Unfortunately, this year's edition was not completely painless. We suffered the first accident of the competition, when Patrik in his Zeekr 7X drove into the center wire guardrail a bit south of Jönköping. Luckily, no injuries, but he had to cancel. In addition, Niklas Zetterling got a flat tire on his Tesla Model 3, in roadworks in Örnsköldsvik, and had to wait a couple of hours before he could get new tires and continue the journey.
